We just got word on the new ride across the Brooklyn Bridge since construction has started. There is now metal sheeting lining the lower roadway of the bridge (pictured) in preparation for construction. The ramp on the bridge from FDR drive is closed, but cars were being moved effectively to another ramp. But our reader notes, “The bigger problem is that getting off the bridge now has traffic funneling to a single lane which let’s you off on Sands Street. Disorienting for lots of drivers who don’t know their way around and also backs up traffic on the bridge but not horribly by any means.”

Nope, I’ve tried the different options and FDR up is fastest, and doesn’t cost me $10 a day in tolls.
Queens to your choice of bridges…
“BSD — I would suggest not driving through the most congested part of the largest city on the eastern seaboard to get to Purchase, NY!” (tybur6)
You know another way? (Brooklyn Bridge to FDR is often NOT the most congested way . ..)
BSD — I would suggest not driving through the most congested part of the largest city on the eastern seaboard to get to Purchase, NY!
What they mean is, DURING THE EVENING/WEEKEND CONSTRUCTION TIMES ONLY, traffic to Brooklyn is routed over the lanes normally used for Manhattan-bound traffic. (There is no access TO manahattan during these times.) Hence you get off on Sands Street, which is normally a Manhattan-bound entrance ramp.
BSD, Same here. It is a long walk from the subway station to my weekend place in the Catskills.
“Take the subway like a normal person.”
I can’t find the subway line up to where I work in Purchase NY.
think of it as a built-in sobriety test and remember how lucky you are not to be stranded on a wretched subway platform.
More like a scam to use the BBT. Well worth the toll now!
