bar
We missed these mentions in NY Magazine a few weeks ago…

Union Pool
Most bars shutter their backyards once the cold weather arrives; however this former pool shop keeps its large one open by heating it with an impressive bonfire. Whether you sit on the benches surrounding the pit or at the tables scattered about, the BQE looks surprisingly lovely fireside. The woodsy smell of burning logs and the bearded PBR-guzzling locals add to the illusion of wilderness in Williamsburg. Camp
This Carroll Gardens indie-rocker favorite may be indoors, but a deer’s head on the wall, a fireplace, and s’mores snacks make it feel like an Outward Bound adventure. The drinks, named for camp-out favorites, are better than the moonshine that got passed around during your last foray into the wild. 1. Okay that last message from me (7:37 pm)is totally mis-spelled and semi-illiterate, but the sentiment is valid. The location is on Grand between Lafayette and Clifton, not Clinton. Also on the block is Dakar, which seems to have a lively bar and sometimes weekend parties.

  2. Grand 275 between Lafayette and Clinton may meet some people’s needs. Depending on the time of day it can be a cafe, lounge or party space. It is gay-friendly, child-friendly, gee , just friendly. it may reflect more the starving artist, afro-centric side of the neghborhood more than some of the sports mentioned.

  3. oops:

I’ve been to June and I like it although I guess I was looking for more bar, less resturant. That Cellars place looks like it has great potential as a space and I’ve tried it but its not great.

  5. I like June for that kind of bar/restaurant– although it depends what you mean by “basic”. june has small plates & some of it isn’t soo basic– like the french onion soup w/ puff pastry on top, mmm– but they do have burgers, and wings…

  6. It would also be nice to have a bar in FG/CH that served some basic food, burgers, wings etc. Is there a good one already that I am unaware of?
