A week after the cofounders of Brooklyn ice cream makers Ample Hills bowed out of the company amid its bankruptcy sale, its new chief is eager to reopen the scoop shops in Kings County and beyond.
Brian Smith and Jackie Cuscuna announced via Instagram that the business will continue but they will not be part of its future, our sister pub Brooklyn Paper reported.
The move has nothing to do with coronavirus or lack of demand for their product.
The path to success isn’t always obvious. When Brian Smith reached 40 years of age, he quit his job writing low-budget monster movies, took a weeklong ice cream chemistry course at Penn State, and co-founded — with his wife, Jackie Cuscuna — what has grown into the Ample Hills Creamery empire.
It was, to say the least, a very profitable midlife crisis.
