Navy Green is on the border of two neighborhoods — Fort Greene and Clinton Hill — which should keep you and your family occupied. Navy Green will make that decision to leave even more difficult, but the neighborhood options are endless whether you’ve got the kids, or you’ve paid a sitter for a much-needed break.

The area around Navy Green has plenty of opportunities for outdoor fun. Fort Greene Park has two playgrounds and is also a popular spot with dog-owners. Designated areas have off-leash hours from the time the park opens until 9:00 a.m. and from 9:00 p.m. until the park closes. There are tennis and basketball courts for the sporty and plenty of tree-shaded grass spots for those who prefer to lounge. The park also hosts summer concerts for kids.

Take the kids to the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center, BLDG 92 to learn about the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s rich history. BLDG92 features exhibitions that track the area’s history. They offer a number of public tours, and you can tour the area on a bike!
Once you’re in the area, why not try a run along the Brooklyn Greenway? When completed, there will be 14 miles along the waterfront—ideal for walking, running, or cycling—that will connect to a number of neighborhood parks.

After you’ve tired yourself out in the great outdoors, it’s time for more leisurely activities. Delicious restaurants are not far. Take the kids to Brooklyn Sweet Spot for a small treat. If you have the night off, try African cuisine at Madiba, Mediterranean at Olea, Asian fusion at Umi Nom, or all things pizza at Speedy Romeo.
If it’s culture you’re after, you can do no better than BAM, with year-round art events for kids including performances, workshops, and films. For art that you can touch, the sculpture garden at the Pratt Institute is the largest in New York City.
Both neighborhoods can keep you occupied shopping-wise as well. Greenlight Bookstore hosts reading events and kids’ story time, and if you want to dress your tots in true Brooklyn fashionista style, put My Brooklyn Baby on your radar.
Brooklyn Grange holds great events like film screenings and concerts. They also offer farm and garden workshops if your kids have a green thumb. Construction Kids has after school programs, special events for toddlers, a camp, and you can also host their next birthday party here.

The Brooklyn Flea sets up shop on Saturdays, and has proved a delight for Brooklyners of all ages. Perhaps the best advice is to explore the area with a long stroll, a cup of coffee in hand (pick it up at Smooch or discover your own favorite).
