In addition to being a top producing real estate broker at Compass, Monica Breese is also a designer, interior decorator, and occasional investor in her client’s development projects — a diversity of skill sets that qualify her to help improve a property’s value. While the typical broker can say they’ve done their job by the time they get to closing, most of the time, Breese is just getting started.

Breese spearheaded the renovation, staging, and marketing of 452 Greene in Bed Stuy, which recently sold for a record breaking number.

The project’s goal was to maintain and enhance as much of the space’s original detail as possible, while also giving it a modern upgrade. The living room at 452 Greene showcases this balance perfectly.

New hardwood herringbone floors blend with the historic character of the brick and brownstone townhouse. The staircase’s original banister and spindles were carefully removed and put into storage, refurbished by master craftsmen, then carefully reinstalled.

“The level of craftsmanship shown in the original detail of these brownstones is unparalleled, and we really wanted to honor that,” Breese said. The result is a tasteful customization of a piece of history — the perfect balance between the old and new.
