“The pinnacle of New York City real estate is owning a Brooklyn brownstone,” said Sephrah Towbin, licensed real estate salesperson for Corcoran, to kick off the free Brownstoner webinar, “Brownstones and Townhouses 101” on January 14.

The webinar, part of the Brownstoner Home Events series, can be viewed in its entirety here.

The panel included Towbin’s go-to partners: Peter Gleason, attorney at MMPS; Abigail Coover Hume, architect at Overlay Office; Sam Allan, mortgage banker at Chase; and Statia Grossman, real estate agent at Corcoran.

Topics discussed included the benefits of home ownership vs. apartment living — more space, the ability to do renovations without board approval, the option to someday get a large dog, and building financial equity, among others.

Peter Gleason, attorney at MMPS, spoke about the importance of hiring an attorney with real estate experience. “We’ve had many clients who started the process using a member of the family who’s a lawyer, and that’s not someone who specializes in title search and procurement and other things that a real estate specialist can do,” he said.

This free event was sponsored by Chase, The Corcoran Group and MMPS.
