Looking to downsize and sell your home? The process is stressful, and leaving can be bittersweet. To help ease the transition, the Resnick Team at Compass will be sponsoring “Should I Stay Or Should I Go?: A Downsizers Panel Discussion” on Wednesday, October 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The team will discuss the buying and selling process and lead an interactive panel discussion with plenty of time for conversation with the audience. Attorney Jacqueline Newmark will be there to answer any legal questions. Katie Hustead, owner of Paper Moon Moves, will talk about readying your home for the market, and recent downsizer and meditation practitioner, Paulette Graf, will be there to offer helpful tips on mindfulness and staying centered during your move forward.

These five tips can help in the transition:

1. Get centered. When selling, go through each room in the house and reflect on the best times you had there. Then focus on the memories that you’re going to be building in your next home.

2. Expect fluctuations. Downsizing is about gaining financial freedom, but the housing market is just like any other commodity — expect subtle shifts in the market to play out in a short amount of time, depending on what you are buying and selling.

3. Keep up (or not) with the Joneses. If you haven’t renovated over the years, you can still sell your home. However, you can’t ask the same price as your neighbor who did renovate.

4. Stage like a showstopper. Whether it’s a simple coat of fresh paint or more, any staging effort — big or small — will attract the most buyers to your home. Find out how the Resnick Team can help you with those upfront costs to stage or renovate.

5. Timing. Keep in mind that the timeframe to sell your home can vary. As experienced local agents, we can advise you when the best time is to list your home.
