Leasing has begun at 181 Front Street, a brand new rental building of one- to three-bedroom units in Dumbo. The architecture of the 12-story, 105-apartment brick building has been carefully designed to be both contemporary and fit into the historic neighborhood, known for its 19th century brick warehouses, cobblestone streets and waterfront scenery.

The building occupies the former site of a warehouse in Dumbo sold to developers Megalith Capital Management and Urban Realty Partners. It was designed by Ariel Aufgang, whose firm also converted the landmarked former Brillo factory at 200 Water Street into 15 luxury condos on the same site.

“181 Front was designed to be both contextual and contemporary,” said Aufgang, who cites the intricate brick design, glass and metal panels as echoes of the area’s industrial past. “The large windows allow abundant light to reach deep into the apartments,” he said.

Building highlights include a 24-hour attended lobby, children’s play area, stroller room, private terraces and balconies, and a communal roof deck with gas grills and views of the Manhattan and Brooklyn skyline. Select units feature private outdoor space. And there’s on-site parking.
