142 BergenWe like the look of this classic 4-story, 2-Family brick at 142 Bergen Street in Boerum Hill. From the photos provided, it looks to be in good shape and to have retained its original character. We don’t know this block specifically, but the neighboring buildings appear to be attractive. There’s an open house scheduled for this Sunday at noon, but if anyone’s been inside this place yet, we’d like to hear about it. From what we’ve seen so far, we don’t think they will have too hard a time getting the asking price of $1.595 million.

  1. Drop down your estimates, folks! Five minutes ago, during the open house, a top bedroom buckled under the visitors’ weight, sending the plaster underneath down with a crash. Big crash, plumes of dust filling the floor. Nobody hurt, and no actual holes, but now a little boy’s bedroom is missing 75% of its ceiling. It was wild and hilarious and sad all at once. To the broker’s credit, he said “Is everyone alright?” before he said “Oh Shit!” but the poor guy had another half hour left to host the open house. Smart aleck “potential” buyers tittered merrily out the doors and down the street. All the comments above are still accurate, very pretty house etc. But I’d wear a helmet.

  2. I was inside last weekend with my wife. It’s an attractive building near the corner of Bergen and Hoyt.

The good: Great location. A fair amount of old detail remains including wide plank floors. Good spatial layout. Windows newish and NOT aluminum. Outdoor access to yard from parlor and the deck above the extension where the kichen is. Rental in reasonable shape.

The bad: needs TLC pretty much everywhere — floors have some monster gaps and the layer of paint mean the trim throughout is pretty crappy. Some pretty poor flooring choices. Kitchen ho-hum. Stoop ripped off in the 70s so everyone has to enter at the ground floor. Back yard tiny.

    I predict a bidding war.
