In response to our request for a real photo of the exterior, a kind reader sent in a couple of shots along with this comment about new development The Caroline: “Not a bad looking building, and although it is surrounded by lots of smaller brick houses there are a bunch of 60’s highrises and pre-wars that are close in height. Not bad for Ocean Parkway.”

  1. I live steps from this condo, and while I will agree with most comments regarding surrounding buildings etc., the area is very peaceful. The building is a breath of fresh air to walk past and has a lot of appeal to it. Yet the only problem I have, it looks like every other new construction ever built in NYC. After searching for years and I am proud that I have finally bypassed the new construction “open floor plan” less space = more money marketing ploy. My apartment has HUGE designated/separate living kitchen and dining areas that honestly I didn’t think I would appreciate as much until moving in. This neighborhood has a lot of spaces that you can call home, if you are willing to walk just a bit more to where you need to get. There are FAR MORE than just kosher restaurants around here to curb your cravings. No it is not over crowded with strollers park slope and Thank god it isn’t “new hippie” young beggars sleeping on the street williamsburg (lived there too).

  2. “I think that this building is really aimed at Russians. They love this style of condo.”

As far as I know, my people love faux pink(ish) brick, at least judging by what’s being built in the Russian enclaves. But perhaps that is now passé…

  3. Benson… you’re a bit off.

The area is Sephardic (Russian Sephardic from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan mostly). Syrian Sephardic are further on Ocean PKWY.

I am a Russian Jew (Ashkenazi) who lives a block away from this condo.

  4. It actually looks like the drawing. Imagine that. Compare this to the drawings/reality of, say, Baltic Towers, which sort of looked like this in its drawings but in real life is a nice complement to the Brooklyn House of Detention.

  5. Sam,

You’re off today. Have you had lunch yet?

    🙂

In addition to Snark’s correction above, let me add another one: this area is not Sephardic, but Orthodox/Hasidic.

The Syrians/Sephardics, who keep their distance from the other branches of Judaism, live further south along Ocean Parkway, in the vicinity of Ave. S to Ave. U.
