deblasio-1008.jpgIn the wake of last week’s term limit vote, Council Member Bill de Blasio is changing course, packing in his campaign for Borough President (a role which, presumably, Marty Markowitz will continue in) and setting his sights on the office of Public Advocate. Although incumbent Betsy Gotbaum has announced she will not be seeking re-election, the Daily News reported (via GL) yesterday that “hyper ambitious” Queens Council Member John Liu will also be gunning for the Advocate position.

  1. Poor DEfakio can’t seem to catch a break. Voters hate him, consituents hate him why even his dog bite him for selling out Carroll Gardens to the world for money.

    What will DEfakio do next.

Fake em all out I bet and run for dog catcher a position he most certainly is qualified for.

  2. BH76, are you kidding? Markowitz is an awesome Borough President! After all, the job involves little more than cheerleading, as Chaka points out, and he’s perfect for it!

You can be his friend on Facebook, too.

  3. The first thing the city needs to do in order to cut costs is to eliminate the public advocates office. After that, they can take out all the borough presidents.

These jobs are all a total waste. The offices have no real power. The public money used to maintain their offices and to put out their useless self-promotional mailings would be better spent on hiring lobbying firms to promote each borough’s specific needs in Albany/City Hall.

These positions were all basically designed as consolation prizes for those who wanted to run for mayor, but have no real voter base (hello Mark Green). In the current environment we can no longer afford these political ‘plums’ for the 2nd place winners.
