There are some nice period details like stained glass windows and wood floors still in evidence in this spacious standalone, along with some updates to the wet rooms and the bonus of parking. At 761 East 22nd Street, it is located in the Flatbush micro nabe of South Midwood.

One of the many neighborhoods carved out of former Flatbush farmland, construction kicked off in South Midwood in 1900 with the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reporting the area would “revel in the diversified possibilities of the Queen Anne, colonial and Eastlake styles.” Houses in the area were required to cost at least $4,500, according to the Eagle, and the duplication of house designs was discouraged. A map of 1906 shows most of the lots on this block of East 22nd Street (once known as Elmore Place) filled with detached houses, including No.761.

The historic tax photo shows a window-filled enclosed porch and a terrace above, with brick piers and a wood railing. While the enclosed porch is still in place, the railing was removed by the time of the 1980s tax photo, making stepping onto that terrace perhaps a bit more perilous.

There aren’t any floor plans in the listing for the single-family home, but the photos show the expected layout of entry foyer, parlor, dining room and kitchen on the main level, in addition to the spacious porch, whose wood floor and ceiling appear intact. There is some original tile work in the entry, and an adjacent niche in the foyer has stained glass windows. The large foyer includes the original stair (with another stained glass window at its landing) and French doors that open into the parlor.

The dining room has its beamed ceiling and plate shelf, all painted white, as is most of the trim throughout the house. There is access from the dining room to the kitchen at the rear of the house. The renovated space includes white cabinets, black countertops and a tile floor. If there’s a dishwasher, perhaps hidden by a panel, the listing is mum. A half bath is on the main level, but it isn’t pictured.

Upstairs, the largest bedroom includes access to the terrace, and all three bedrooms have wood floors. The full bath has been updated with white finishes and the same flooring as the kitchen, leaving the original stained glass window intact.

Laundry is in the finished basement, where there is also a second kitchen and another full bath.

There is a patch of lawn at the front and a private driveway with room for parking. While it isn’t mentioned in the listing, the lot includes a garage, and photos show it to be an early 20th century rusticated concrete block structure. The rear yard looks like it could use a bit of attention from someone with a green thumb and some vision.

According to the listing, new radiators were installed throughout the home. The house is just blocks from Brooklyn College.

It hasn’t changed hands since the 1990s. Now listed with an agent located remotely in Georgia, Cornell D. Casey of Brenda Lee Strickland Realty, the house is priced at $1.985 million. What do you think?
