bike-congestion-0610.jpg
This was a first for us: En route to the office this morning we encountered actual congestion in the bike lane along Navy Street, though the strikingly homogeneous group of riders remained quite civil as they pulled up to the intersection and waited, law-abidingly, for the light to turn green. As we approached Sands Street, everyone else made a left towards the Manhattan Bridge as we continued on towards Dumbo.

  1. “Can’t a group be homogenous, but engage in behaviour that is striking?”

Kind of like the gang in “A Clockwork Orange”? Or maybe that is just that their behavior included a lot of striking.

  2. I THINK YOU’RE ALL MISSING THE POINT HERE>

If you think about this phrase…”though the strikingly homogeneous group of riders remained quite civil as they pulled up to the intersection and waited, law-abidingly, for the light to turn green.” there’s actually quite a bit more to discuss here.

I wrote a letter to the NYPD Police Commissioner a while back concerning *traffic enforcement* — or rather, the lack thereof.

I just got a call from them to explain something to me.

DID YOU KNOW — those black cars that say “Traffic Enforcement” do not have police officers in them!?! Ya know, the ones like this: http://nycpdcars.50webs.com/nypd1661.jpg

Those cars do not have the authority to do anything related to moving violations. They are only parking folks. What used to be called meter maids, but we’re not allowed to say that anymore. Hardly “Traffic Enforcement” at all.

This is FUCKING RETARDED. Not to mention how much I love how they DOUBLE-PARK to write parking tickets for expired meters!! So many things wrong with this… can’t even figure out how this is OK on any level…

Well, it was nice of them to call me even if the call made me question to purpose of the NYPD.

  4. I wonder if the six bicyclists in the photo, just minding their business while waiting for a light to change, could have ever imagined that they would be a catalyst for a thread such as this?
