bike-congestion-0610.jpg
This was a first for us: En route to the office this morning we encountered actual congestion in the bike lane along Navy Street, though the strikingly homogeneous group of riders remained quite civil as they pulled up to the intersection and waited, law-abidingly, for the light to turn green. As we approached Sands Street, everyone else made a left towards the Manhattan Bridge as we continued on towards Dumbo.

  1. Look 11217(my friend!) I get your point about driving and using oil – but that’s why I WALK more!!! – walking doesn’t impinge on anyone’s rights NOR does taking the train to work!!!!
The problem with many cyclists in the city and BK is their “Devil May Care Attitude” -they are reckless and am sorta tired of seeing really pasty white woman legs peddling on their silly vintage bikes to and fro
go take that ish to Paris -haaaaaa

  2. what does it matter if i ride the wrong way down a one way street if i’m not in the middle of the road? I just started biking a round Brooklyn against my better judgment and fear that I’ll be clobbered by your CRAZEE drivers.

Yep, i enter park slope via Carroll street from PPW, because i’m scared sh*tless to ride down union with all it’s speeders. Then it’s right on to 7ave and left on union straight to the co-op.

And no i don’t stop at red lights either.Too busy running from automobiles,so while they wait i zoom through the light to a less busy side street.

  3. Apparently Marty Merkowitz hates the new PPW bike lane and wants to get rid of it before it’s even completed. Even though it’s been used HEAVILY from what I’ve seen and has also calmed vehicular traffic immensely.

One of the reasons I’ve heard for why it’s not working is that people are unloading their coolers from their cars onto the bike lane as they get ready to go grill hot dogs in prospect park.

So now cyclists may not have a lane here because Americans are too stupid to realize they need to share the road with others.

People in Europe make fun of Expert’s mantra about Americans that we have to have everything written down in a rule booklet instead of just using common sense.

UGH! – more and more the city is being littered with bad manner bikers
every day along 5th avenue down here around 1st there is ALWAYS a biker going the wrong direction!

HA! that is my corner at home. in the two years ive lived there, i’ve almost gotten run over by someone on a bike at LEAST 10 times! and one time it was someone with a baby on the backseat!

  5. Serious sticks in asses here. No pedestrians. And as a bike rider I often stop in the box if no peds around, and if some come to cross, I move my bike back, as I see other bikers do because its light and easy. The same doesnt happen with cars blocking the box. Go get some box and don’t be so uptight.

  6. “11217, I’m not arguing AGAINST cyclists. I’m arguing that they need to obey traffic rules!”

Please, you’re becoming a broken record.

I’m going to start keeping a log of all the motor vehicle douchebaggery I see on a daily basis.

They could also set up shop on the corners of Spring and Bowery and write a ticket every time the light changes.

troof. the intersection of broadway and spring is actually worse. the funny thing is tho, it’s the pedestrians who are the problems here.
