This Sunset Park rental at 456 51st Street has a lot to recommend it, including the parquet floors and other original architectural details. The three-bedroom duplex, a recent FRBO addition to the Brownstoner Marketplace, has 1,800 square feet of space. And while the lime green accents may not appeal to everyone, the manicured yard surely will! Think the ask of $2,800 a month will bring a renter out to 51st Street, a block away from the R train?

  1. Every brownstone or limestone? Our house has slate fireplaces, not wood, and they do NOT have any tile.

Is that because our house was originally a painted lady wood house? And definitely not so fancy as a brownstone?

Actually, oddly, the front parlor in our place does have a wood mantel and it has some tile in this style — but very odd because it’s just three pieces made to look as if it’s individual tiles. But we are pretty sure the mantel is a later addition. The proportions and style are different, and it doesn’t seem to lay as closely on the chimney breast.

  2. Rob, those tiles are orginal. Every limestone or brownstone of that period, the late 1880’s – 1890’s has or had them originally. The color combo can change, but those quarter tiles are a regular feature of fireplace surrounds. No HGTV needed, they were already there.

I also think the kitchen looks a lot nicer than most rental kitchens. Most rentals have the same low end cabinets slapped up on the wall, whether the apartment is $900 or $3900.

uh, and HOW is that any different than people who let their kids do the same thing? im serious

    *rob*

  4. I like Sunset Park too! A lot! But can’t afford it either. And yeah, it’s so far.

They just need to move Sunset Park closer to Manhattan and discount every property 50 percent. Then it will be perfect.

  5. I would rent that for $2800.

    In Fort Greene.

The weird thing about this market though is, the houses in Sunset Park COST almost as much as the ones everywhere else, it’s just a lot farther away from everything. Not to knock the neighborhood — I don’t know it, but I do love it down there.

  6. FYI: There is some idiot on that block with insane dogs. He lets them out in front of his house to bark and froth and jump at passers-by. On the positive side, the library is at the end of the block, as is the train (which can be a positive and a negative).

  7. “Stooooopid retarded rental rate. Yet stoooooopid retarded out-of-towners so rock out. That’s a Fort Greene ask.”

Sheesh – when was the last time any of you people rented? ANYTHING this big north of 15th St will be at least 3,500.
