Give us a moment here to swoon over this one-bedroom at the Herman Behr Mansion in Brooklyn Heights. Sure, it’s not dripping in historical detail, but this apartment comes with a beautiful balcony, stained glass, and plenty of windows. What the space lacks in size it makes up for in location. Thoughts on the $2,800 $2,900/month rent?

  1. Was one of my favorite buildings when I lived in the Heights. I wonder if all the apartments have been stripped of detail>?\? But at least they left the French doors with the stained glass panels.

  2. Maly,

big l-shaped studios I’m referencing have the following dimensions:
    living rm – 12 x 21
    sleep area – 8 x 12
    kitchen – 6 x 8
    dressing area – 5 x 4
    generic bath – 5 x 7
    3 closets

these studios usually clock in around 475-520 sq ft so I’m guessing this might be a little bigger hence my 550 sq ft

the pullman kitchen, living rm smaller than 12 x 21 living rm of a studio, etc, the pics on this one gives me impression it’s same to marginally bigger than a big L-shaped studio

  3. CGar, I’m saving this one, and did mention it in my Walkabout piece on Frank Freeman, the architect. You’re never home when I’m in the Heights. Sorry.

While cute, and the terrace is certainly a perk, this apartment is so disappointing, detail-wise. I had hoped, since they kept the detail in the entryway, which I’ve only glimpsed as I walked by, that there would be something left upstairs, at least a fireplace, or some woodwork. Too bad.

  4. m4l, how do you figure? 2 round balconies, one from the bedroom (with stained glass above the French doors) and one from the living room (with stained glass on both sides of the French doors), plus a wall of 5+ windows by the kitchen/dining room area, it can’t be a studio, unless the listing a complete fabrication in text/pics.
