Rental of the Day: 249 7th Street
We don’t feature many rentals in Gowanus, so here’s a two-bedroom pad on offer at 249 7th Street. As far as location goes, this place isn’t bad: It’s right by the 9th Street subway, The Bell House, Four and Twenty Blackbirds, and a short distance from the Slope. As far as location goes, this place isn’t bad: It’s right by the 9th Street subway, The Bell House, Four and Twenty Blackbirds, and a short distance from the Slope. The apartment itself looks fairly standard, if on the small side, and it’s going for $1,900. That sound about right for the area?

Yeah, that’s in the right ballpark. I don’t necessarily think it looks too small, either – clearly a floor-thru, right? The only thing is the kitchen looks kinda odd. I would say try to negotiate to $1700 or even $1800 and you’ve got yourself a pretty good deal – though I’m biased in favor of the area. Can’t imagine you’ll find that in the slope or carroll gardens.
“How can you tell if it’s on the small side or if the pics are just not so great? I like the bay window. Is $1,900 per month reasonable for 2 bedrooms between 3rd and 4th Aves.? If it’s small, that would seem a bit high, no?”
shockingly enough – it’s a pretty good deal. one bedrooms i’ve seen listed lately in gowanus only go for a slight discount over the slope proper. there isn’t a whole heck of a lot of inventory tho.

I guess this is a good deal, which is sort of sad — makes me realize how lucky I am that my landlord has never raised the rent.
It would be funny instead of “steps to 5th avenue” they wrote “450 steps to 5th avenue.”
I guess this actually sorta represents a “stabilization” of the rent prices in the area…. but…
