This four-bedroom apartment is in a neat-looking house at 401 East 2nd Street in Kensington. The exterior has some, ahem, idiosyncrasies but the porch (astro turf and all) trumps them for us and the interior is in pretty decent shape for a rental. The $2,400-a-month rent for four bedrooms ain’t bad either. What do you think of that price for this part of the neighborhood?

  1. There are some HIDEOUS blocks in Windsor Terrace between the cemetery, highway, Fort Hamilton Parkway and Vanderbilt (and above) AND on side of WT sandwiched between Prospect Park and the Highway close to the Fort Hamilton Parkway F Train stop. Few trees, an unpleasant hodgepodge of architecture (think brick row houses covered in siding next to a Fedders job adjacent to a cute little frame house), and highway noise are among the reasons why that part of Windsor Terrace is much less desirable than the nicer blocks in Kensington. The best housing stock is on tree-lined blocks with fairly uniform architecture – early 20th century Victorian. Most of this falls between Church Avenue, Fort Hamilton Parkway, McDonald, and Ocean Pkwy. Plus the Church Ave stop is EXPRESS and you can buy a gallon of milk after 9 p.m. Take that Windsor Terrace!

And of course, the only people who bought in WT in the last 5 years did so because they were priced out of Park Slope.

  3. Boerum,

cause it probably a legit 1300 sq ft vs. the bullshit inflated numbers we often see from brokers. I have a 1250 sq ft aptmt and it’s 2 bdrms plus maids qtr (ie 2.5 rms) and I have huge living rm and huge dining rm. so if the 1300 sq ft is legit, can easily see 4 bedrm’s

  4. Gimme a break!
The angle south of Fort Hamilton Pkway and west of Coney Island Avenue is ugly! Don’t try to claim the opposite.
The people who bought there in the last 5 years only did because they were priced out of Windsor Terrace. They didn’t go there and said: Oh nice! Let move there…
