Well, if you can’t buy an apartment at Northside Piers, it’s good you can still rent one: this two-bedroom condo in Northside Piers is currently being rented out by its owner. The window space is a huge plus, and from the 19th floor, you’d have a killer view of the waterfront. And of course you can take advantage of all the “luxury” amenities you’d expect from a new Williamsburg condo, such as an outdoor balcony, a subzero fridge, remote-controlled curtains…Luxury waterfront doesn’t come cheap, however, even if you’re renting. The asking price is $4,500 a month.

  1. Yeah — garbage disposals are great, but they are actually terrible for the sewage treatment system.

They increase the FOG (fats, oils and grease) because you’re simply putting more stuff down the drain. FOG is the hardest thing for the sewage treatment to deal with… it gums up the pipes and it makes for a rough environment for the bugs in the aerobic digesters. Along those lines, just an increase in organic material makes the sewer system have to work that much harder. It’s the least environmentally sound place to put your vegetable scraps because of the energy required… #1 = compost, #2 = landfill, distant #3 = sewer system.

That being said, when I had a garbage disposal (in Seattle), I brought out my non-recycling garbage as little as every 2 or 3 weeks. I would put meat scraps in the freezer until I emptied the garbage and anything else that would rot/smell had already gone down the garbage disposal. It was a pretty sweet system.

  2. haha – i would too tybur!

definitely don’t see as many fridges with ice makers in NYC as the burbs.

-Question: How come you NEVER see garbage disposals (the kind in the sink)

  3. The refrigerator in my apartment is only GE Profile… that’s not as luxurious is it? It does have an ice maker, though. First time I’ve ever had one of those. Freakin’ awesome! I feel like I’ve arrived!

Oh, and my dishwasher is Boch. How does that fit into the “luxury” spectrum?
