The emergence of a jail-themed jungle gym at the Tompkins Houses in Bedford Stuyvesant has the community in an uproar. Black and Brown News, which ran this image earlier this week, did some homework and found that NYCHA was responsible for ordering it earlier this week. I don’t think they should put that there in a neighborhood where many Blacks and Latinos go to jail,” one resident of the public housing complex told BBN. “My son will ask me, Mommy, if I go in there, will I go to jail. As of yesterday, NYCHA had told BBN it was “looking into” the matter and there had been no response yet from the mayor’s office. Pretty mind-boggling and offensive, no?

  1. legion:”Please name a human society which stands above reproach?”

But if you will, I can be an equal-opportunity debunker 😉

No really, that’s beside the point. Just because there’s a level of hypocrisy and venality and what-have-you everywhere, it does not mean that Jefferson gets a pass. If anything, your claiming him to be such a paragon of virtue should make one more, not less, critical of him.

I guess I’m a complete cynic, and don’t hold many historical figures in high esteem. I’d take what’s good from them, and acknowledge it, but feel free to be critical when I don’t like what they say (or do.)

  2. BSD, sorry, that was meant specifically for Biff. i didn’t mean to offend the entire diaspora.

ENY, I don’t get your point on that 4:07 post. Are you questioning their credentials???

  3. “The pretax incomes of the wealthy have soared since the late 1970s, while their tax rates have fallen more than rates for the middle class and poor.”

  4. From what I recall she has a nice rack.

If memory serves she was an Australian soap opera actor and auditioned for the song “torn” (which was already written, they just needed a set of pipes and a nice rack to front the song). She got the part and it ended up being a big hit. One hit wonder, right? Or did she do anything else? Sort of like Merrill Bainbridge, another aussie chick one hit wonder from the 90s.
