The emergence of a jail-themed jungle gym at the Tompkins Houses in Bedford Stuyvesant has the community in an uproar. Black and Brown News, which ran this image earlier this week, did some homework and found that NYCHA was responsible for ordering it earlier this week. I don’t think they should put that there in a neighborhood where many Blacks and Latinos go to jail,” one resident of the public housing complex told BBN. “My son will ask me, Mommy, if I go in there, will I go to jail. As of yesterday, NYCHA had told BBN it was “looking into” the matter and there had been no response yet from the mayor’s office. Pretty mind-boggling and offensive, no?

Both East New York and Dave, Etson, Legion, et al have good points.
In terms of the middle class, incomes are falling and taxes (usually state and local) are on the rise, the destruction of the middle class, particularly the lower middle class of industrial workers could very well spell the end of this country as we know it: prosperous with a relatively large middle class.
However, low taxes and less bureaucracy/regulations does contribute to economic growth, ask any small business owner. This could also spell doom for the future of entrepreneurship and innovation in the United states.
It’s important to note that neither political party does much to help either situation.
Yeah that one really got under your skin. It was funny.

It did? Well, I said at the time that it wouldn’t work, but to say it “got under my skin” is a bit of a stretch.
Anyway, it WAS funny – in the sense that I’m amused anyone would actually fall for it.
And people like Dave are too interested in letting everyone know how often they get laid to consider anything like this too seriously.

Except for responding to the master/slave comment, this generally stays in the OT.
Considering anything seriously in a blog like this is really an exercise in relativity. If anyone of you want to pay more taxes, feel free to do so.
ENY, I didn’t say either of the two points you mentioned in thiose two paragraphs.

At the very least, you implied the notion that tax increases are in and of themselves are harmful to the economy.
SUCCESS
dibs,
wait till the administration talks about the Value Added Tax,
VAT
it’s inevitable.
A National Tax on everything.
we’ll get to pay city, state and national taxes on bug spray.
I think you’ve given yourself that image, and what’s more you like it. Remember your “You need to freak out on people once in a while” post?

I have the mental ammunition to allow me to scrap with anyone.

Good. Bring it out!
A flat tax would be the best thing all around and, most certainly, the best for the overall economy. Think about it…somewhere between 12-18%.
“It’s better to raise taxes on the MIDDLE CLASS while reducing taxes for the WEALTHY!”
What middle class tax rise??
DIBS and I support lower taxes across the board.
