After a bit of a slowdown over the summer, our intrepid renovation bloggers are picking up the pace again. At the end of August, the Gates Reno gave us an update on the garden floor demolition; demolition was the word of the day on the Windsor Terrace Reno yesterday as well. No more walls! And big stuff is happening at the Crown Heights Reno, where they’ve put together the online equivalent of a flip book showing the rear extension going up (one of the photos is above). Now all we need is news from Bed Stuy. As you may have noticed, when we did the site upgrade last month, we made all the different renovation blogs stream into a master blog so that it’s easier for readers to keep up with new posts. That said, we’d encourage you to click through to view the new posts in the context of their stand-alone blogs. Also, if anyone is embarking on a renovation and would be interested in doing his/her own renovation blog, drop us an email.

  1. Neene, I’m glad it’s coming along. Thanks for sharing the process with us. As you can see no matter what you do, or how you explain things, there’s somebody who has to have issues. I for one, am interested in the process of adding an addition, and it’s very instructive to see. Thanks! Good luck.

Someone you met at Hal’s party.

  2. Holy Hubris, batman. To conceive of a structure like this – for the creation of “art” – is in itself amazing. To execute it is incredible. To document it for public scrutiny and comment is… wow. What balls. Immense balls! Which side do you dress, madam???

  3. your assumption is correct
it was a due to a death and long term retirement plans, the house was on the market before our plans were made.

btw i left my home and studio of 25 years because a building was going up that would totally block my light so i am not insensitive to the issue.
    and no,
i don’t have the attitude that since it “happened to me”, i have the right to “do it to someone else”,
because, the reality is, i don’t feel anyone “did anything to me”

it’s just part of the growth of the city and living in close proximity to so many people; chances are greater that your neighbor’s decisions at some point just might have a negative impact on your life.

but i wish you were my neighbor because i know you would never do anything that could ever be construed as inconsiderate.

  4. “that not withstanding, i do recognize this represents a huge change for my neighbors, we are fortunate that they have been super understanding (and one is selling so the new people will be buying with it already in place.)”

I assume the neighbor’s move is totally uncorrelated with the extension going up.

  5. actually, we have a north garden and the only sun the extension might block is from the east in the morning. however, since a 3 story extension to the right already blocks much of that light, our extension actually has had very little impact.
that not withstanding, i do recognize this represents a huge change for my neighbors, we are fortunate that they have been super understanding (and one is selling so the new people will be buying with it already in place.)
