Are you kidding? I guess you all have been breathing deeply down on the BQE. Dwell Well? I guess, while your lungs swell (and rot) on the fumes from the highway! For 3/4s of a M you too can have a hut by the highway and fall asleep to the hum of the cars whizzing by. I think not. NY Mag says PS is the #1 place to live in NYC and suddenly brokers think anything goes again? Give me a break. These ALL are over priced. I’ve seen the stats, listened to Obama, read Krugman, and am watching with anticipation the skewering of GS, but this all seems so 2007. It’s D-day folks. The credit ended now, let’s watch the slow down.
you can still brick up a fireplace and leave the existing mantlepeice in place. If its one of those fancy marble and wrought iron mantles, you can’t even see the brick because the decorative ironwork covers the inside of the fireplace. Many homes in brooklyn have this.
If you reconfigured that house as a one bedroom house…how would you ever sell it again?
The Gowanus house is perfect for a single or couple if you reconfigure that second floor into a master suite. The block looks funky, but not in a bad way. Close to the BQE, though. Price a bit too high.

I think the latest 3 sales on Strong were in the $1.5-$2mil range – at least 2 of the 3 require some serious work although that hasn’t prevented the buyer of #22 putting it back on the mkt at almost $2.9mil with a paint job… I guess what #47 is worth depends in part what it would take to convert to a single or two family and it’s appeal relative to #29 which is 25ft wide ($2.3mil) and also chopped up into floor thrus.
Pete, I agree that Strong Place is nicer than Cheever Place, but, unlike you, I can’t throw millions of dollars around willy-nilly, so I’ll take a house on the not-as-nice-as-Strong-Place-1-1/2-blocks-closer-to-the-BQE block and save myself $1 million+ that I don’t have.
Also, schools don’t concern me (except perhaps for re-sale). Talk to me about dog runs for CDog.
CGar, what’s wrong with the Gowanus house?
