People are now paying around that price level in Bay Ridge for a 2 story with garden level house. The problem with this house is likely the busy street it’s on; there are tons of quieter blocks on less busy streets for buyers to choose from there.
Minard,
That certainly doesn’t apply to the Maple Street house. It MIGHT apply to me (at least the buying back in the day part) IF I ever wanted to sell MY house, wasn’t already retired, and would consider living anywhere but Brooklyn 🙂
It’s really unique. I think people in Brooklyn inherit these houses, or they bought them from %500 back in the day, and they don’t care if they sell them this year or in 2014. Whenever they finally get a million dollars for it they will move to North Carolina and retire.
“sell high whether or not anyone buys”
Uhh…okay…that’ssssssssss…impossible.
It’s anti-foreclosure NYC.

BHO, speak for yourself. I know many readers, if not posters, who do in fact want to live in Bay Ridge, particularly in a limestone such as this one.
Really, only in New York and Brooklyn is there this anti-market mindset where houses don’t sell, and don’t sell, and take forever to sell, and yet prices don’t plummet. I don’t get it. It is a new form of economic model. It isn’t buy low sell high, its sell high whether or not anyone buys.
Yeah, Petebklyn. The financially illiterate at those prices.

“not many readers want to live in Bay Ridge or Greenpoint.
” – does that mean only illiterates want to live there?
At the rate the Open House picks have been selling, Mr. B will need to start a new thread:
