The NY Magazine article :

Really interesting article. Thanks for sharing. i think it’s dead-on, too. The neighborhood, in my experience (I’ve been there a year), is extraordinarily warm and welcoming. I do wonder if that might change if gentrification continues at such a rapid clip and people feel the genuine nature of the area could change. I’d be interested to know the percentage of owner-occupied buildings in Bed-Stuy. I know many of my neighbors own their houses and have for years and years, so for them rising (spiraling) house prices are financial good news – as long as the neighborhood retains its incredibly gracious and neighborly character.
First of all, have people read the article on Bed-Stuy in this week’s New York Magazine? I wonder what impact it will have on prices, etc.
I went to the 598 Macon Street and the 296 Stuyvesant Street open houses this weekend. 598 has no details and does need renovation work. It’s amazing how much prices have gone up recently in Bed-Stuy.
The photo for 296 Stuyvesant street on Brooklyn Properties’ web site makes the place look a lot nicer than it is in reality. It does have a lot of details – but needs quite a bit of cosmetic work (they have an all pink bathroom). For 899K in Bed-Stuy I would expect more.
Has anyone seen the South Portland houses?? I missed them and would love to hear condition, attendance etc…
I saw it 2 months ago and althought the inside looked semi decent. It was more of a frat house with about 4 students living there. One room had only underwear (no kidding). The outside needes some work and overall, lots of cosmetic.
I’m definitely going to the Macon Street open house. They were asking $760,000 and just a few weeks ago.
