Aguayo usually does a decent job with the photos but, annoyingly, rarely provides the address. The Kensington house (left) is a free-standing, turn-of-the-century single-family with five bedrooms, private parking and a front garden; not much in the way of architectural detail though. Not surprisingly, it looks like you get a much bigger bang for your buck further out into Brooklyn. The house on Glenwood Road near Brooklyn College (right) is quite a bit larger and dripping with period elements like ornate woodwork, stained glass, and restored parquet floors. It also has a front yard and porch as well as private parking. Are there any readers out there who can bring us up to speed on what this nabe is like in terms of infrastructure, safety, etc?
Kensington Victorian [Aguayo & Huebener]
Glenwood Road [Aguayo & Huebener]
I just moved to Kensington and I love it a peace of mind and low crime. I could not get this in my other neighborhood prospect lefferts.
I have lived in Kensington for 12 years. I love it because it is a very diverse area. By diversity I mean socially, economicaly and it deffinatly is not a shi-shi-foo-foo area. Brooklyn College vicinity can have some rough spots. However having to travel by it for the last 12 years I have never wittness any wrong doing. Overall both areas are wounderful due to thier close proximity to various major places of intrests.

I was the one who was laughing at the price on Glenwood … I kind of take it back because it seems that the price has been lowered a bit to 799k. I believe when I looked it was listed in the 900k’s.
I’ve lived in Kensington for 3 years and the neighborhood is very safe.
A very diverse neighborhood-you have
Russians on Ocean Parkway, Little Pakistan and Hasidic families living side by side, very residential and quiet. Kensignton is a 15 minute walk to Prospect Park and you get alot of bang for your buck 3 train stops away from Park Slope.
I would consider Kensington before the Brooklyn College area. Closer to the park and more desirable.
The entire area is known as Victorian Flatbush. The sub-sections are historic – not imposed by real estate agents. This is indeed South Midwood, which has about three prime streets. Tell me where were the previous posters driving back to while they were laughing? A cramped two bedroom in ParkSlope? Or their majestic single family on Montgomery Place? Please… South Midwood is hardly a slum.
To me most of these places are all Flatbush but for realtors to market we now have a dozen little new ‘hoods’.
We drove by the house near Brooklyn College. The house is actually a dump (looks MUCH better in the photo) and the neighborhood is not good … pretty much a slum or leaning towards being a slum. We laughed all the way home at the thought of someone paying that amount of money for such a house, but then again we do that often nowadays. I believe the neighborhood is South Midwood.
Sorry for my ignorance, but what neighborhood is Brooklyn College considered in?
