For those who made a resolution to climb more stairs in the new year, this prewar unit on the fourth floor of a walk-up building will fit the bill while also offering closet space and a renovated kitchen. In Kensington, the co-op building at 179 Ocean Parkway is a few blocks from the Parade Ground.

The four-story brick building is one in a stretch of four apartment houses built between 1922 and 1924, all with Colonial Revival touches like swag- or urn-adorned lintels and entrances framed with pilasters or columns and topped with a dentil cornice. Records for two of the buildings, 183 and 201 Ocean Parkway, show they were built by the Olga Realty Co. and designed by Shampan & Shampan. The architecture firm was behind a number of large apartment buildings in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan in the prewar years. It’s likely the same firm designed No. 179.

A renovation after the one-bedroom last sold in 2021 kept the wood floors in the main rooms, including the central foyer, which is large enough to function as a dining room or an office.

This central room is open to the windowed kitchen, which has white cabinets, open shelving, and a dishwasher. A new tile floor replaces the wood one shown in the old listing photos.

The living room has treetop views, recessed lighting, and pale green walls. The building faces busy Ocean Parkway, but noise-reducing windows have been installed, according to the listing. Low paneling, popular in the 1920s, encircles the room.

The color palette switches to shades of purple in the bedroom. According to a floor plan in an old listing, the bedroom has one of the five closets in the apartment.

Adjacent to the kitchen, the full bath has been updated with white subway tile on the walls, oversized black hex tiles on the floor, and a white vanity.

A board application is required for renters in the co-op building. The building has laundry, a courtyard, and is pet friendly.

Belle Caplis of Compass has the listing and the apartment is priced at $2,950 a month. What do you think?
