The New York Observer has released its 2012 “Real Estate Power 100” list, which attempts to rank the industry’s most powerful players. The list, as in past years, is center-of-the-universe (Manhattan) oriented. The top of the heap, according to the list is Marc Holliday and Andrew Mathias, “CEO and President, respectively, SL Green Realty Corp. SL Green is largest office landlord in New York City and the architect of too many ingenious deals to list. But here’s a sampling: the joint venture purchase of 1552 Broadway which will lead to 40,000 square feet of retail space in the heart of Times Square, the staggering Viacom lease renewal and the retail and multifamily purchases with Stonehenge Partners. Marc Holliday and Andrew Mathias navigate the REIT through New York’s competitive landscape.” Of note, to us, in this pick is that SL Green owns a skyscraper in the recently designated Borough Hall Skyscraper Historic District. Some people with important stakes in Brooklyn show up further down on the list, such as Joe Chetrit (#40), who is developing projects in Flatbush and Greenpoint, and Dumbo mavens Jed and David Walentas of Two Trees (#47).
