Windsor Terrace House for Sale -- 34 Sherman Street

This three-story Windsor Terrace brownstone is new to the market, and from the look of it, it’s been under the same ownership for a good long time. Its got an Aged Grandmother vibe so pronounced that you can taste the hard candies in a silver dish — and it’s also got a load of original detail.

That includes a lot of fine mahogany woodwork, including wainscoting, pocket doors, fireplace mantels, pier mirrors, hallway mirrors and mirrored china cabinets, including one with leaded-glass doors. There’s also plaster detailing, moldings, tin ceilings and inlaid parquet floors.

The listing, from Ken MacBride of Fillmore, isn’t long on details. There’s no floor plan, and the sometimes-dim photos favor details over big-picture views, while skipping over many parts of the property — kitchens, bathrooms, the back yard. We can tell you the place is a multi-family, with a total of six bedrooms and two full bathrooms, plus one half-bath. It’s 20 feet wide and offers 2,880 square feet.

It’s easy to imagine that the interior detailing is fairly well maintained, and even easier to imagine that the place as a whole needs a lot of work, including a lot of upgrading. It could be quite a fetching home, though.

The ask is $2,200,000, which is not aiming low, even if this is a particularly nice block of Windsor Terrace. Think it’s on target? What do you think of the house?

  1. Aside from firing FIlmore for the atrocious listing photos, If they want offers for asking, the owner needs to get their furniture and clutter out of there and have it staged. The original details are beautiful, but the atrocious photos combined with the gaudy and aged furniture is going to detract people from making the visit. At this ask, I’d look at extreme fixer-upers (which this may very well be since we don’t see pics of the bathroom or kitchen) in the South Slope given the more desirable location.
