The two-family house is a little on the small side–three stories tall and 18 feet wide–but, despite some low-budget modifications, it still has quite a bit of original detail and is only attached on one side. On top of that, as the listing points out, the taxes are only $1,325. Given all that, do you think the price is about right?

i looked at that place in late June. there was actually a contract at the time that must have fallen apart. those pics highlight the ONLY real details left. it is a bit small and no possible use for basement either, fyi. also, the upstairs apartment entrance is through the parlor, with no privacy for the owners duplex. on the “unattached side” is the maintenance driveway to the public housing on the back property boarder. the tall back fence of yard is opposite the basketball hoops for the rec area of the housing complex. the neighbors across the street and their homes are very nice though- and after everything else we’d seen in the mid 500’s i “almost thought about making an offer” and living with the sound of the basketballs 8 mths of the year. ended up buying a larger, fully renovated 2 family brick row with a better layout and much more preserved detail on kosciuszko at marcy and im positive it was right house to buy. got it cheaper that 539 too.
Recently used to live over there-ish. Seems like Nostrand is the “great divide”. Agree that the area is definitely “block by block.” Can’t speak for Quincy, but both Gates and Lexington between Nostrand and Tompkins are not exactly charming. I remember walking back from the Nostrand A at night and I think we had one of those police “skyboxes” on Nostrand and Gates for months.
I also think having a vacant lot next door should not be necessarily seen as a positive. Who owns it? What is it zoned for? Friends of ours had a vacant lot next door and it was built into an enormous 24hr laundromat.
I’m not familiar…it’s too far away from me. Also, it’s quite a walk to the A/C line and not very close to the G either.
This is a part of bed Stuy that needs to be looked at block by block.
is anyone familiar with this block? if so, whats it like?
We’ve been touring a bunch of “renovated” places in Bed Stuy and the level of low budget cost cutting is at times frightening. The lighting fixture is cool though – but not 539K cool.
Given all that, do you think the price is about right?

Given the lack of a widget to express our opinion, I’m going to assume that is a rhetorical question.
