House of the Day: 633 East 24th Street
This Victorian house at 633 East 24th Street has a lot of things going for it–lots of original charm, a modernized kitchen, wraparound porch—so it will be interesting to see how the asking price of $949,000 flies. If this were a few blocks away, on the other side of Cortleyou, say, then it would be a lay-up. We’re not so sure that the Brooklyn College area (Mary Kay calls this micronabe South Midwood) can support that price. What do you think?

total fail midwood starts at avenue H. flatbush works just fine.
Why no long shot of the entire house facade? I happen to love the retro pink bathroom. The area is okay; dodgy towards Flatbush Ave., lots of remuddling from the boom in the nice blocks. “Flatbush” works for me.
Ditto what kensingtonka & Kensingtonian said.
Yeah either Flatbush or Midwood….def. not Ditmas Park.
CGar, answering your page. Definitely not Ditmas park; I know people who live in that neighborhood, they call it Flatbush.
What are the crime and schools like down there by Brooklyn College?
We go see the Colonial Nutcracker every year, and I love the campus – but the surrounding area looks seedy.
Think you correct, Boerumresident. We know two families in Midwood so we visit a few times a year. IME the Wiki entry is correct:
Midwood is a neighborhood in the south central part of the New York City borough of Brooklyn. It is bounded on the north by the Bay Ridge Branch freight line tracks just above Avenue I and the Brooklyn College campus of the City University of New York, and on the south by Avenue P and Kings Highway. The eastern border is Nostrand Avenue or Flatbush Avenue (depending on whom you ask), and Coney Island Avenue, McDonald Avenue or Ocean Parkway to the west is the other boundary (again, depending upon whom you ask).
There is no Wiki entry for the 100 year old name South Midwood.
Why is this “South” Midwood? Isn’t Midwood south of Brooklyn College?
Anyway, I will take a guess and say this gets around $800K.
I like it.
