House of the Day: 1631 8th Avenue
1631 8th Avenue was included as an Open House Pick last weekend but it’s nice enough and reasonably-priced enough that it seems deserving of its own House of the Day post, dontcha think? The house is only 2 1/2 stories and just steps from the Prospect Expressway, but it’s got a lot of charm, is…

The house is only 2 1/2 stories and just steps from the Prospect Expressway, but it’s got a lot of charm, is in good shape and, at $1,295,000, is actually within reach of some of the families that might want to buy it! Waddya think?

this is a lovely house….i prefer the east side of 9th in WT but this is still not a bad location. I’d be looking at the house (barely listed) on Sherman before this, but this looks to be in nice move in condition and will go very close to ask, if not over.
You do not have to be in finance to be making over $200,000 a year in New York. Tens and tens of thousands do so in other fields.
This place is in South Slope, bordering Windsor Terrace. Certainly not a bad neighborhood. A little sleepy, maybe, but new stuff opening all the time around here. I doubt it is zoned for 154 (the school on 11th in WT) but if it is that is an amazing school. I would think it is zoned for 10, also a very good school.
8th Avenue is not my favorite street, traffice goes fast, but otherwise this is a very family-friendly neighborhood with good schools and walking distance to park and good restaurants. It’s not the craziest asking price, houses in WT prime get this and this house is arguably South Slope.
Thanks for the neighborhood info, 11217 and denton.
I’ve never warmed up to that neighborhood, but that’s probably because I just barely know it.
tybur6, NYC thru the banks got most of the Gov’s bailout $$$ – that’s more than enough to splash on housing
t6, just keep repeating this… family money… family money.
New york is awash in it. I’ve seen it.
m4l — But then who are the folks paying out in Manhattan? This is the thing that is most baffling… this city seems to be in the unreal bubble of cash creation. And I don’t really understand the source. It has to be coming from the outside somehow, right? Or are we just printing our own money… I know the Federal Reserve is nearby…
11217, welcome back! I’ve missed you!
Pigeon, these are nice blocks, the only complaint one could make is that they are a bit quiet, if that bothers you.
Heather, you call this small? 2000 sft plus 1000 sft of basement that is windowed and most likely can be used for any number of things?
This is a great house. Nice looking, seemingly mostly renovated, in a safe and quiet nabe close to PP and subway.
There are some folx (me, for example) that would prefer a house like this to a ‘bigger’ house with the same living space but an apt above or below.
I don;t usually do the widget but I will this time, 1.250 mil.
tybur6, there’s more than enough people (with that income and/or able to shift big profits from selling Manhattan pad) to absorb the pricey inventory in brownstone BK. to expect this splashing of cash everywhere in BK? yeah, that would not be possible. just brownstone BK, pretty possible.
