This single-family home at 136 Westminster Road in Prospect Park South just hit the market. It’s unusual to see a habitable house in this neck of the woods for less than a million bucks, so we suspect that the asking price of $975,000 will attract some interest even if the place, while quite attractive, is not quite as spectacular as some of its neighbors. Do you agree it’ll go fast?

  1. Tybur6 – You should report these supposed drive by shootings to the 70 since they are unaware of any. All that’s happened near there are a few burglaries and the suspects were recently arrested.

  2. I remember the score on the stairs now. The stairs pictured in the photo are the original stairs… but since there’s a big wall in front of them, dividing the house from the offices, they have lost their sense of grandeur. There is a back staircase still in place.

  3. One other big drawback (as is): house has no comfortable dining area. There is a decent living room (although not really hugs), which opens on to the kitchen. There is an area for a table, but it is squashed in front of the back door – which is currently the main entrance to the house. You open the main door to your home and are smacked in the face by a dining room table – in the only area where you really can put one.

  4. I actually bid on this house 8 years ago. Offered $825k, which was only $25k under the ask at that time. Owner turned me down and has rented the place ever since. My plan was to continue to rent out the front office until I had saved enough to pay for shingle shakes and to replace the front porch.

There was an OK new kitchen, not really to my taste, and many bathrooms that needed updates. The living space on the ground floor had been sorely compromised, as the offices took up half the ground floor. However, you could get most of that back, although detail (floors, windows) was lost in the office conversion.

I felt I was offering more than what the house was worth in 2003. Could not believe the owner turned me down. All the rooms needed paint, etc. New baths. Some pretty stained glass remains, great back staircase. If I remember, correctly, front staircase is long gone, eater by the offices. But I could be wrong on that score. Used to have tos of pix of the interior, but now lost. Basement was in good nick.

  5. someone with balls, vision, and a 200-250k renovation budget is gonna get the deal of a lifetime here.

killer block, killer neighborhood, and killer house (with the front porch restored.)
