Our favorite room in this house at 1201 Union Street in Crown Heights is the un renovated upstairs bedroom in the lower right of the montage above. It’s the one room where you get a good sense of what this place feels like at its core–and it’s a good feeling. The two-family house’s unusual dimensions34-by-35-feetmake for very generous floorplates. (The current configuration could certainly be improved on. This place is really calling out to be a one-family. And, oh, that kitchen! Ouch.) Anyway, for $719,00, it seems to us you could do a lot worse.

Tinarina, this is on the other side of Eastern Parkway from me, in Crown Heights South. Although I’ve been on this block on walks, I don’t know much about it.
Interesting, however. The width makes for intriguing possibilities, potentially getting one away from the usual brownstone layout. However, I agree, space planning is weird. I’d have to totally move almost everything to have it flow better.
The proposed intake center at the Bedford Armory is quite far from here, at Bedford and Atlantic. There is another armory on Bedford around the corner, which does also have a shelter, but it is not the one designated for the intake center.
I’m also quite doubtful any landlord is getting $2000 or above for a floor through here, no matter how wide or spacious. I haven’t heard of anyone getting more than $1350, and most people are charging somewhere around $1200. Good luck with that.
Don’t know why is calling out for single family – looks good way it is – and use the basement as family room if family is that big. This economy calls for collecting that rental income instead of heating all those mostly unused rooms.
Big ? is fate of homeless intake center that Commander Bloomberg is trying to push on the neighborhood right around the corner. (try to remember these issues also folks when you heap praise on him).
Looks like a pretty nice part of CH. Not the greatest-looking building ever but lots of space inside. Could be pretty solid as a duplex with a renter on the top floor, or knock down some walls and convert it to a single-family.
I dunno, I think this one’s actually pretty tempting.
Very interesting house. Do I see an illegal basement apartment as well?
Although it would be a nice one-family, it looks as though it was conceived as a two-family based on the layout. MM, whaddya know?
Why so many bedrooms?
More Space Planning ideas from me:
Convert to 1-family:
1st Floor –
Expand kitchen into bedroom area to the left with nice double doors to rear.
Bedroom to left of living room, make dining room.
Create an opening into the living room across stair.
2nd Floor –
Combine living and bedroom in the front to make a master bedroom suite.
Small bedroom to right of ‘living room’, make master bath.
Turn kitchen into another bathroom, with laundry.
Can you tell, I’m bored today.
