It’s not often that two adjacent houses come up for sale at the same time, let alone ones that are identical twins, so this new listing at 121 and 123 Fort Greene Place in, you guessed it, Fort Greene is worth taking a look at. The houses don’t have stoops, but they do have plenty of original detail. Judging from the pics, though, and the fact that both buildings have been under the same ownership for at least three decades, we’re betting that they’re going to need some work. While not a park block, the location is super convenient. The combined asking price of $2,724,000 doesn’t sound like a reach to us, but we suppose it’ll all turn on how much work needs to be done. If that number’s beyond your each, the two buildings are also for sale separately, though we hear that there’s been plenty of interest already.

  1. Montrose;

    My comment was that the preservationist movement is “intellectually bankrupt”. I haven’t made a statement about its “morality”.

    We’ll just have to disagree about Rob’s intent here.

  2. Sure benson, all those condemnations of preservationists being “morally bankrupt” don’t count. Whatever.

    Rob didn’t have to name ethnic groups. “Ghetto” is a loaded enough phrase as it is, saying much, while technically not saying anything.

  3. He called it “ghetto.” Maybe rob has a more expanded and less detrimental definition, but that doesn’t take away from what that word means in code. To suggest otherwise is disingenuous.

    BTW- your daughter exhibits uncommon good sense in a number of areas, benson 😉

  4. quote:
    benson- yet if this were a place in Bay Ridge or Bensonhurst and you perceived him as making fun of Italians, you would be all over his behind. We’ve all seen you do it- so why does rob get a pass from you here?

    actually those hoboken style (lol) of curtains WERE used by low class italians in north jersey (my GREAT grandmother being one of them.) and my grandmother making fun of having to live like that growing up.. sorry but im not going to be PC and hold my tongue when it comes to window treatmeent.

    *rob*

  5. I’m surprised everybody bothers to answer them. You think Brownie pays them to write stupid comments on the curtains to up the comments and page views? If he doesn’t, it sure works, anyway…answering them just encourages them.

    When I see a listing like this, I just assume the house is being marketed as a major rehab, gut reno probably, possibly marketed to condo developers, meaning bring your contractor or architect, and it isn’t for those who merely want to buy a home. Those looking to renovate majorly likely get the code, call the broker, make an appointment, schedule their contractor.

    Lack of pictures to me means … you really don’t want to see the condition. And maybe it is still occupied (probably is, since it says will be delivered vacant.)

    Seems to be there may be a broker strategy here – they end up not having to waste time dealing with those who don’t want to take on something major, since they can’t see nice pictures… And look at the comments from one picture – can you imagine if there were more?

  6. I knew I shouldn’t have gotten involved, but since Montrose is making statements on my behalf, let me respond: I have never claimed that there is a moral issue, or lack of one, wrt preservation. My arguments wrt preservation pertain to economics and urban planning.

  7. I make negativecomments about Fedders buildings, but not the owners. I have never mocked a Fedders owner, or the owner of anything I might not like, and I defy anyone to find where I did. I may say I don’t like a certain decor, or a certain building, but I have never trashed anyone’s home. I am very careful about that, because I don’t think it’s right.

    If you think all I do is “mock fedders buildings and anything that isnt 300 years old”, then you really haven’t been keeping up.

    Benson’s assertion that Brownstoner’s comments about the things that he doesn’t like are some kind of “moral crusade” says more about Benson’s constant harping of the “morality” of preservation, or his assertion that there is none. Not going there, today.
