We don’t know where on Degraw this brick townhouse is (we’re sure one of you will tell us), but it has a very nice feel to it. The windowed stair landing and the four-over-four wood windows particularly do it for us. And we wouldn’t mind having a parking space either. The parking space (and resulting wide lot), however, along with the fact that this probably isn’t landmarked make us worry that this will become a target for a developer. Can anyone who knows this house comment on that possibility?

  1. I have a much more reliable source of information, tried and true. My broker.

Don’t tell me brownstoner is free and my broker charged a commission. Most of you brownstoners will never know how much money you leave on the table.

  2. Sometimes Brownstoner knows. Sometimes Brownstoner asks. Either way, within a couple of hours the questions is answered. I can’t think of any other site where you can get more or better info about Brownstone Brooklyn. Do you? Please share.

  3. As one who avoids joining into the common rants I could not help but point out the probable reason for much of the frustrations I read in this blog in numerous areas.
    The issue that I would validate would be this;

    FACT#1
Brownstoner, after fielding rants about questionable information or speculations offers only to lash back that Brownstoner does not claim any expertise on any level with regard to real estate or to the content of the Brownstoner blog.

    FACT#2
Brownstoner’s popularity has caused the Big Media to quote brownstoner on several occasions. Brownstoner’s comments are most often implied to come from someone of a particular expertise or at least with some level of experience that would imply a heightened knowledge of a particular subject matter.

    FACT#3
Brownstoner sells advertising and profits from the readership of this blog.

    ***
Brownstoner should, at this late date, understand that blogging has evolved to an accepted delivery point for true and accurate information and that the general public often assumes experience, knowledge, and legitimacy based on popularity – however erred that assumption may be.

Brownstoner has taken a position of providing a forum for a particular subject matter and business that is very high profile. Again the popularity of this forum and it’s recognition imply, almost automatically, some form of knowledge.

Brownstoner might understand that among journalists and Americans there are responsibilities that one of conscious cannot ignore.

Your “unhealthy obsession” does not qualify nor quantify your expertise all by itself.

My only question would be, why then do you insist on dismissing the responsibility while you profit from the result?

  4. Who implied that the author could have provided better information? As 3.17 points out, brownstoner lives in Clinton Hill and there is no reason to expect him to identify the building. Frankly, I personally would not have remembered if that is on DeGraw or Sackett off the top of my head. Nor would I have been able to identify the exact address without walking by the building itself.

Thankfully, others could, thus making the comments feature useful and interesting.

  5. Brownstoner asked if any readers might know the property because realestate site did not give address and he’s not as familiar with Carroll/cobble area. So if anyone could identify property by picture and come up with info as to whether this spot could be developed.
All he said was the width made him worry but didn’t know the site. And frankly – if that lot were not so shallow it might well end up redeveloped even at asking price of $1.65.
A 50′ wide lot on my much lesser block just entered contract with asking price of $3.3 for redevelopment. I hope it isnt Radusky/Bricolage – because they are just finishing one of their ugly pieces of S*** now on the block.

  6. a 10 sec financial evaluation tells you this scenario could not work for development. the current owner is asking $1.65M, aquisition cost alone is well beyond a profitable margin.

  7. hey “lived mostly in the area” it appears you missed the point also – your rant was a repeat of the brownstoners opening speculations. that appears to be precisely the point. it was implied that brownstoner could have provided information rather than speculation.
seems like a tight and testy little clic here.
and I in fact enjoy far superior information.
the information the former post was implying you should provide is free to the general public. one look at the picture it is clear beyond doubt what building that is. one only need truely know the neighborhood. brownstoner and co. are missing the point. yeah I know…just tune out – clic.
