houseWhen we first glanced at this listing, we thought to ourselves, “Hmmm, what a handsome looking townhouse for only $720,000.” Upon closer inspection, though, we reflected, “Dang, that’s a mad skinny house.” (Okay, those weren’t our exact words, but you get the idea.) Turns out the four-story spread is only 1,900 square feet, which makes the asking price look pretty steep given its location. Unless it’s in pristine original condition, which we doubt, we’d say this is overpriced by a good $100k or so. Are you with us or against us on this?

  1. If the house has a center staircase, then the rooms are the same size as a 20+ ft. house, because the rooms are fullwidth, so saying it’s not worth as much doesn’t make sense. Plus, a 120 ft. lot is higher than average, so does that make it more valuable?

Mr. Bay Ridge Hubby, it’s hard to take you seriously with the pathetic spelling. The racist comment is dwarfed by your stupidity, which only proves what we already know: racism is the sibling of ignorance. You’ll have to try rile up another blog.

  2. I am SOOO over reading about illiterate realtors (who cares?) and — especially — over/under priced houses. I swear I will never post an opinion again on this nauseating subject. We all sound like the biggest bunch of money-obsessed bores this side of a day-traders convention. Thank God for Katy’s witty diversion. Can we get back to the houses, their achitecture and history and the joys/frustrations of fixing ’em up? How about a preview of the Bed Stuy House Tour coming up this Saturday? Or just some dumb jokes. Anything really. But the endless focus on selling prices is getting tacky.

  3. I’m someone’s white wife and I’m buying a brownstone in Bed Stuy. I had no desire to look in Bay Ridge because I can’t deal with people like that. Let’s have a chat in a few years, racist guy, and see how our property values compare then. Oh yeah, and learn to spell!

  4. Brownstoner, I was the last poster and I just realized what the Bay Ridge person meant by “ni.”. We don’t need that racist vitriol on this blog. Unless I’m mistaken, I think it would be nice if you just removed it.

  5. I live on the Clinton Hill side of Lefferts Place and take exception to the comment from the Bay Ridge person. It is a mixed block racially (as is the entire area). Last time I checked my wife was white as am I and we don’t have any worries because of that. It is a friendly diverse area. If you are not comfortable being in an area that has people of different races, that’s your perogative, but I must say, Clinton Hill and the bordering Bed Stuy are more expensive than Bay Ridge because people like the neighborhood and want to live there.

  6. About getting the street name wrong, yes mistakes happen. But when you’re selling a house people should not have to wonder what neighborhood it’s in because the realtor could not get the street name right. Also look at the rest of the listing, clearly not a lot of time was “waisted” in getting it right. If a realtor stands to make tens of thousands of dollars off the sale of someone’s home, I would think that person would at least deserve a little conscientiousness.
