House of the Day: Boymelgreen Bungle
We can’t figure out what Boymelgreen was doing spending his time with the small-potatoes action of a townhouse development in the first place. We wish he hadn’t though. We can’t figure out what Boymelgreen was doing spending his time with the small-potatoes action of a townhouse development in the first place. We wish he hadn’t though. Other than the nice-sized windows and light (which may not last longer than you can say “Bruce Ratner”), this is one of those designs that, while certainly a step up from Fedders, makes you wonder what the architect was thinking. The mix of materials and exterior decorative touches are the most troubling. The generic kitchens don’t help much either. There was an open house on Sunday. Anyone check it out?
518 Carlton Avenue [Corcoran] GMAP P*Shark
It looks nice. Why does everything have to look the same?
Agreed 100% about the architecture but what’s the crack about
“generic kitchens”?
can you mewl like an inane little cunt anymore?
how much is the city paying for Yankee Stadium & Shea Stadium with ** YOUR ** $$$ and you worry about
“generic kitchens”?
so don’t fucking buy it. I’m no friend of Boymelgreen in the least but c’mon, get a goddamn New York grip.
thanks in advance,
Amelia
David- get a grip and read an article or two about context (you dont need the quotation marks btw). Then get back to us.
Boymelgreen doesn’t care about legacy, he care’s about $$$.
Incomprehensible that anyone could find this “ok.”
Repeat after me: This is absolutely unacceptable.
Why oh why oh why can’t these artistically devoid billionaires find someone with just a smidgen of talent? why? what gives?
Note to Mr. Boymelgreen: YOU ARE NOT DOING YOUR LEGACY ANY FAVORS! PLEASE TRUST US AND START HIRING PEOPLE WHO HAVE AT LEAST MARGINAL TALENT. PLEASE? PRETTY PLEASE?
This kind of horror is the best reason to buy on a landmarked block. A few years ago I almost bought a lovely brownstone on a non-landmarked block. Then the buyer of the house next door unveiled such a godawful new facade (ripped out the original ironwork and replaced them with modern marble balusters and railings in a Las Vegas bordello motif, among other things) that the thought of having to look at it every day when I came home from work was more than I could deal with.
‘Context’?? this is a 3-story townhome next to (2) 3-story townhomes. What could be more ‘contextual’ then that?
What people are advocating for is actually ‘sameness’. Most of the posters on this thread want this house to have the same height, same color, and same doors and windows, etc.. as the house next door. That isnt an issue of ‘context’ at all.
Now whether you like this house is another story all together- I like it but would like it more if the roof line ‘matched’ and the doors were nicer- I think the winows are very attractive, the detailing is nice and I am very gla that they kept the street wall intact. But if you don’t like it thats ok, but to call it an abortion, horrendous etc… is just silly as is the idea that the ‘community’/government should have a say in these things.
And while you certainly dont have to like the faux-bricks – I have no idea why as a concept that is any less objectionable then the faux-brownstone on the adjoining houses.
Wow. This is really ugly.
This is a bit off topic, but thought that those who followed the thread on 280 Washington yesterday would be interested to know the BHS just listed the house (yes it is the same one) for $3.999 million. The link is below:http://brownharrisstevens.com/detail.aspx?id=389724. Also the house is still on the corcoran site at $3.399 million. I would think that the brokers would at least try to harmonize the pricing. Jeez!!!!
