house
This house sure looks cheap to us at $585,000, but, frankly, we have no idea what this block of East 32nd Street between Beverley and Cortelyou in East Flatbush is like. It seems like there must be a catch. Given that it’s a three-story, three-family, the layout’s probably not ideal for a family buyer; on the other hand, there are original floors and moldings as well as a bay window that sweeten the deal. The footprint of the house is large–20 feet by 53 feet–and, as the listing points out, there’s another 1,500 square feet of buildable FAR as of right. Whether this is a “deal” or not hinges on what the immediate nabe is like. Help please?

  1. My best friend might buy on Lincoln and Rogers Ave. Lefferts Manor. On the other hand, he is more attracted to Prospect Pk./Eastern Pkwy near Washington Ave.
The “nabes” as I see written, are very different, and the articles above were really instructive.
I thought I could smell the same air I smelled in Alphabet City, Manhattan in the 1980s. Fear, anger, intrepid spirit, and hope.
The Row Houses of 99% of New York that have “nice details” were not built for any of us. 2006 is a new era for Bklyn, and it is not going to bode well for the poor. Tell me when the “very” poor had it good?
I am the “very” poor. I live in Times Square because I worked at manipulating HRA. What color is my skin?

  2. Anon 8:55 is the type that thinks a kick in the rear is the answer. Well guess what: WRONG.
The house is not worth the asking price and if anyone on this board disputes anon about school districts is also, WRONG.
You receive nada for nada. If you live in this hood and pay zilch in taxes, then zilch is what your school district will receive. Maybe the comment about school not being important should be re-addressed. I mean self education is vital, gaining knowledge objectively is just as important. If the school districts indicate low marks, low marks will not help the hoods status

  3. No one is justifying anything, anon at 8:55- but the key to positive change is understanding how you got from there to here. People like you are always going to help perpetuate the problems because you don’t understnad the first thing about them.
