Windsor TerraceThis three-story bay front brick house in Windsor Terrace is a new listing from Aguayo & Huebener. Postives include an attractive facade, 55-foot depth, and move-in condition. Negatives include a fairly sunken basement level, charmless renovation, and an apparent lack of historic interior details. But what do you want for under a million bucks within a few blocks of the park? We just don’t understand why owners persist in doing such cheap-ass renovations…We have to believe that they are only short-changing themselves when it comes to resale.

  1. It does face the expressway. The ‘finished’ basement is maybe 6 ft high or slightly more (I’m 6’3″ and I was ducking a lot), is paneled with cheap wood, smells musty, and is full of junk (including a refridgerator) and renovation residue. (Move in ready?) Other parts of the house are strangely laid out, including interior windowless ‘living rooms’ for the upstairs and downstairs ‘apartments’. The ground floor does have an extension that adds an extra room, which isn’t bad.

  2. If it’s facing the Prospect Expressway, that would make this 18th St. (ahrlty web site includes the address in the url.) This squares with the size given on propshark for 551 18th Street. In which case, add to the negatives: Faces the freakin’ Prospect Expressway. Also seems that that three stories is actually two stories plus a finished English basement that “could be” used to make a bedroom or den.
