A McCain Outpost in Blue Park Slope
Hey, don’t assume that Park Slope will go blue on November 4th. Four brownstones on 11th Street are adorned with McCain signs (though residents had to travel to New Jersey to get them). Hey, don’t assume that Park Slope will go blue on November 4th. Four brownstones on 11th Street are adorned with McCain signs (though residents had to travel to New Jersey to get them). Writes the NY Times, “The election district that includes 11th Street has 643 registered voters: 51 of them Republicans, 452 Democrats, 23 in other parties and 117 who did not list a party. That breakdown is echoed by the overwhelmingly Democratic makeup of Assembly District 52, as well as that of Brooklyn, which voted 79 percent for Senator John Kerry in 2004.” The McCain supporters are old school Slopers, writes the Times: residents from long before the Manhattan exodus who say the block was full of Roman Catholics and firemen when they arrived. But donkeys and elephants alike seem to be getting along: old and new, Obama and McCain-lovers. As one Democratic neighbor said about his neighbor’s signs, “To me, that says the person’s possibly open to some dialogue.

Prodigal Son…your post was eerily “What-like”
Yep, the 250K voters won’t make a difference.
Well, I spoke too soon, DIBS does.
Of 116 million American households, 2.24 million had incomes of $250,000 or more. That’s fewer than 2 percent of all households, and the highest bracket the Census Bureau tracks. Not much of a margin of swing votes here!!!!!
Dave, thanks. That was the point I was trying to make with moreteasir. If Obama’s elected, I’ll likely pay more taxes too, but I happen to believe it’s not just in my own best interest; much more importantly it’s in the best interest of the country and most other countries for him to be elected over McCain.
Prof you forgot thast he’s also hoping to institiute social security on income above 250K, which, if you are self-employed, eg partners of LLPs, means a chunk because you are paying both employer and employeee contibution.
But in any event, your argument is disingenuous – who wants to pay more taxes than they currently pay.
Republican or Democrat, right or left…this country is over. Rome is burning, folks.
This website, this city, this country, you, me and everyone in it will cease to exist as we know it.
Soon.
Okay, let’s start over, moreteasir.
“Obama is gonna raise my taxes.”
And I care about your taxes being raised, why?
ProfRobert….I made the same calculations as to how much my income might decline under Obama and then decided that its still best for the country and the country’s position vis a vis the rest of the world to have Obama as the next president. These are miniscule, non material changes to your standard of living, a cheap price to pay for setting the US on a different course.
