With original steel windows and a beamed ceiling, this Jazz Age apartment has style as well as a decent amount of space for a studio. It’s located on the eighth floor of 101 Lafayette Avenue, a 17-story apartment house that opened in 1932 on the site of the demolished University Club and is now a co-op known as The Griffin.

Designed by architect Frederick H. Klie, the red brick Art Deco building has an elegant arched entrance with geometric and Middle Eastern motifs rendered in colored terra-cotta. Similar upper-story details were captured in a photograph when the building was under construction.

Inside, the two-room apartment has high ceilings and a living room large enough for both seating and a bed. The focal point of the living room is undoubtedly the steel-frame casement windows. Lovely to look at it, they are known for not easily accommodating air conditioners — but this one seems to have already incorporated a slim a/c unit.

The updated all-white kitchen has another steel window and space for a table. There is also a dishwasher and plenty of counter and storage space. The renovated bathroom has black and white tile.

The apartment has a proper entry foyer and three large closets, including at least one walk-in. “Unusually large closets” was a selling point in an early ad.

The building has shared laundry, a full-time doorman, live-in super and package room. Listed by Steve Brady of Corcoran, the unit is asking $2,500 a month in rent. Worth it?
