In an early 20th century row house, this Flatbush unit doesn’t offer a lot of bells and whistles but it does have a flexible layout and a generous amount of closet space.

The house, at 159 Martense Street, is one of a row of two-family limestone houses completed in 1908 by the Edgar Improvement Company. The unit is on the second floor and still has some period details, including wood floors and wall moldings.

The layout is typical of the time with the largest of the six rooms at the front and rear of the unit; those now serve as a living room and a large bedroom. The kitchen is adjacent to that bedroom, originally a dining room.

Three smaller rooms — including two windowless ones in the center of the house and one adjacent to the living room with a window — were bedrooms originally and can work for modern dwellers as work from home, storage or dining space.

The windowless rooms each have a closet and there are five more in the unit, including a walk-in in the hallway and the pantry in the kitchen. The windowed kitchen has a tile floor, wood cabinets and recessed lighting.

No photo of the bathroom is included in the listing but an old listing shows some Deco-era tiles and accessories mixed with a wood vanity and a tub with shower doors.

It’s a no smoking unit and small pets are allowed only on approval. The listing also notes that no shares are permitted, which may not jibe with New York’s roommate law. No laundry is mentioned in the listing, nor a dishwasher.

Listed by Bryan Baltimore of Sotheby’s International Realty, the apartment is $2,800 a month. What do you think of that price?
