Here’s something for all the prospective house-buyers out there to consider: You can now rent an entire townhouse (albeit only a three-story one) in Fort Greene for $4,500. The Craigslist ad touting this deal doesn’t give an exact address, but it does mention that it is on Carlton between Dekalb and Lafayette, hardly a shabby location for the ‘hood. Given that there are six bedrooms, we smell a sweet arbitrage opportunity: Rent the entire place for yourself then sublet five of the bedrooms for $1,000 a pop to Pratt students and have an extra $500 a month in walking around money! Sign up soon and be just a few paces from the nearby Inauguration festivities.
Does anyone know if this house is still available for rent? I’m very interested in it (and not for renting it out to frat boys), but the craigslist ad is expired.
Thanks.
I know this house. It’s a brownstone. It looks like a 3-story from the outside, but has a small fourth floor which may very well have 3 bedrooms (so 6 bedrooms total is possible). The garden level is a renter, not the owner. Nice house, deck, backyard and a great location.
BH76, Bill Cosby probably had more influence on the development of my sense of humor than anyone else, growing up. We listened to his records until the grooves wore out. They are still hilarious stories. After quoting him for years, I guess I can give him a couple. Interesting…. I’ll have to find his interview.
Montrose: Was it you who wrote so beautifully about voting this year? If so, I think you could sue Bill Cosby for plagerism. He said almost the same thing — taking pictures of his parents out in the voting booth — only not as well as you — on Meet the Press Sunday.
The meeting went well It was more of a Stuyvesant ext. meeting.. Some really good people came out even from on here. Your name is well respected among many of the board members..
Yep, Amzi, that’s why I know most of the neighborhood pretty well. I’ve seen it when it was considered pretty bad, and have celebrated its overdue renaissance. How did the landmarking meeting go?
I have not looked at the ad on Craig’s List but couldn’t help chiming in to calm certain curiousity in the comments above: if this house is 3-storeys on Carlton between DeKalb and Lafayette, it is probably one of the small brownstone or brick houses. In fact, actually, I believe the shorter houses may all be brick.
It would be across from the school but it is not the side of the school entrance. It is a very convenient location for the restaurants, playgrounds, the park, green market, eventual flea market in April again…
If the comment above referring to the owner living in the house is true, than she should simply rent out the bedrooms individually instead of advertising it as a house rental.
Wow Montrose I did not know you spent so much time in Bedford Stuyvesant…
Wow. I hadn’t looked at full townhouse rental listings in a while. Check out this $7500 place in Park Slope: http://www.corcoran.com/property/listing.aspx?Region=NYC&ListingID=1407880&ohDat=
