When we checked in with 80 Dekalb in early January, the 365-unit rental being brought to you by Forest City Ratner was about 25 percent rented as best we could ascertain. Yesterday we received an email from a reader who had just toured the 36-story tower and been told by the broker that half the apartments were now rented. For what it’s worth, the tipster also said that the apartments were extremely nice.

fair enough guvna!! it sucks being a renter now, that’s for sure!!
dirty hipster, while I can understand your logic to a point, I think I’d rather live in some dudes “dark crummy garden rental” (props on the description, lol) and save as much money as I can until I have a decent downpayment to live where i really want to live longterm. ofcourse, I do realize that there are lots of folks who dont wnat to live in Brooklyn longterm, and thats why they rent. In those cases, do your thing. But for the others who want to own in Brooklyn at some point, I cant say I understand shelling out this much to rent at this location. Thats all I meant.
but wasn’t there a buzz of rent concession – like 2 months free rent? which would bring the effective monthly rent down to $1833.33?
“”The Market” seems to amount to nothing more than greedy developers hooking clueless renters willing to shell out insane money for nothing more than the privilege of living in their new buildings and . . parting with their money lol. more power to them all!”
Clueless renters? really? have you taken a look at rents in the past 6 months or so. it’s expensive to live like a human being in Brooklyn. Not everyone is interested in renting a dark crummy garden rental in some dudes house.
“I live in the area, but I cant see the attraction to spending that much to rent in that spot. good thing they’re not relying on folks like me to make a crazy profit.”
Pick this building up and move it to a more ‘prime’ location and it would be more expensive.
Is it a lot of money? sure – but I wouldn’t call anyone choosing to live in these buildings clueless.
you can pls some of the people some of the time…
this was always gonna be a rental, right?
right, i thought the prices were high based only on the location. for $2200 i’m living in a 1br on a prime block in cobble hill right now — and though i’d much rather live in something that’s new and updated such as the units at 80 dekalb, i just can’t justify the price and being in that location.
but it tempts me still. having a washer/dryer in unit is an unfathomable luxury to me. and the finishes and appliances in that building really are great.
I thought it was just me! Again, “The Market” seems to amount to nothing more than greedy developers hooking clueless renters willing to shell out insane money for nothing more than the privilege of living in their new buildings and . . parting with their money lol. more power to them all!
I live in the area, but I cant see the attraction to spending that much to rent in that spot. good thing they’re not relying on folks like me to make a crazy profit.
you can live in the trump tower in soho for 4K a month too! im sorry these prices are ludakriss!!
*rob*
Yeah, the price difference between 1 bedroom and 2 is crazy — I am assuming they’re going for shares and not families with those prices.
But, exactly, I think you could live anywhere in Brooklyn for $4K/month.
