Governor Cuomo released the video above yesterday saying that if rent-regulation laws are allowed to expire next month, it would be a “crisis” for the state and that the laws need to be extended and strengthened. Cuomo says that “by current standards, it is estimated that over 130,000 more apartments could be lost to decontrol in the next few years.” City Room notes that the though the Assembly approved legislation last month that would extend rent regulations through 2016 and shift the luxury decontrol ceiling from $2,000 to $3,000 a month, “the issue has drawn little interest in the Senate.”

  1. Maybe if we got rid of rent control, rich people would have to start doing their own manual labor, fixing their own broken stuff, cooking and serving themselves their own food, cleaning their own offices, homeschooling their kids, and taking care of their own relatives, because people who don’t make at least $50k a year won’t be able to afford to live here anymore. It would actually be kind of funny. I mean, who would polish DIBS’ shoes for him?

  2. Whatever, jaguar. If someone is truly unable to pay, I have no problem with that. That said, there aren’t a lot of other places in the country that subsidize rents, so why should NYC?

And, if they are elderly, I’m guessing they don’t actually have to live nearby to any job anymore so aren’t they being selfish by not moving further away so the “system” can house someone who needs to be closer to a job??? Think about it.

As far as my job, I apparently work more efficirntly than you do and can multitask!

  3. Dave, there are statutory rape laws in Pennsylvania and one of these days you are going to pick on a delivery boy who has his papers in order and who will not be afraid to turn your predatory ass in to the authorities.

  4. Um, actually, I own my own apartment, but do have an elderly relative who has a rent controlled apartment on the upper east side that she has lived in for 50 years. Is she supposed to move from her home of 50 years because some piece of shit like you thinks her building should be allowed to jack her rent up as much as they want every year? Believe it or not, eastern parts of the upper east side used to actually be where middle class people who worked as teachers and social workers lived. The only thing here that hurts my brain is when an economic predator like you sits in judgment of the unwashed masses, who god forbid, can’t afford to pay $2000 a month for an apartment within an hour of the two jobs they have to work just to make ends meet. By the way, as much as you post on this site, I seriously question whether you even have a job.

  5. RR no longer helps those it was intended to help. Most units are occupied by leeches, drug addicts, people with no aspirations and benefit abusers. I hope it is dissolved. Projects should also go to the elder population. I think the tit has finally gone dry.

  6. Hey jaguar, it’s always nice to hear from you. I bet the RC apts are full of low life like you.

But please, feel free to add to the conversation if it doesn’t hurt your brain.

  7. Apparently DIBS is perfectly happy living around the unwashed masses as long as the whorehouse, I mean bank, where he works is within commuting distance. I have an idea for you, move to PA now you piece of shit.
