Co-op of the Day: 174 Pacific Street, #4A
Old schools often look like great places to live from the outside, with their large windows and high ceilings, but their conversion can also result in some awkward division of space. This top-floor two-bedroom at 174 Pacific Street is a case in point. Beautiful building, unusual apartment configuration. It’s not necessarily bad, but it’s unlikely…

Old schools often look like great places to live from the outside, with their large windows and high ceilings, but their conversion can also result in some awkward division of space. This top-floor two-bedroom at 174 Pacific Street is a case in point. Beautiful building, unusual apartment configuration. It’s not necessarily bad, but it’s unlikely to appeal to everyone, with the raised living room, home office on the landing and gambrel roof. On the other hand, there’s plenty of good stuff too: Lots of space, new(ish) fixtures and appliances, exposed brick and skylights. The asking price is $1,350,000. What do you make of it?

3A does not have the skylights or the two extra tower rooms.
3A, which looks to be about the same sq ft, was listed for $1.2M and eventually sold for $990k last December.
This is a great block, lots of variety and you’re just steps from the gun and rod club. This may also be the nicest school or church conversion in this general area. Layouts still look a little weird though sometimes that makes for some cool/different spaces.
It looks like this apartment is under the central tower and that there are two, ten by ten rooms, stacked one on top of the other, above the dining room accessible by stairs visible in the floor plan. It is a triplex of sorts. Very eccentric but interesting. I like it.
I agree Nomi–would like to know how this “tower” is situated vis a vis the rest of the space. Looks pretty cool though.
I like this place. Seems like it gets a lot of natural light.
Not possible, DitmasSnark.
Jonathan Butler has too much integrity to do such a thing and not disclose it.
I need an interior elevation rendering, or whatever it’s called. I cannot put this together in my head. Where are those lofts? In a tower over the dining area?
(NOT trying to say I don’t like it; just want to understand it.)
“Connect the dots.”
Thanks a lot, Snark. Can you now tell me how to remove ink from my computer screen?
