This one-bedroom at 30 Schermerhorn Street in Brooklyn Heights just hit the market with an asking price of $650,000. The floor-through apartment has nice old fireplace and floors but the kitchen’s not going to get anyone’s heart rate up. Still, the other rooms are nicely proportioned and there’s a good amount of natural light. Fair deal?

  1. I got it !

The reason people don’t like this kitchen is because it has things in it. There are objects on the counter such as a bowl, a pitcher, a toaster oven, and other things. Plus the shelves have little kitchen things on them. It is a real kitchen.
A Brownstoner show kitchen must betray no hint of human activity or occupancy. Nothing on the counters, nothing on the shelves, nothing anywhere.

    Am I right?

  2. yeah the counters and appliances are a miss, but this quite doable even for people who don’t want to do work. bathroom is an issue for any visitors, so put the sex toys away.

i’m seeing 800sf max, maint at $1 psf no doorman. seems $50-100k rich to me, but i do not have the stars in the eyes about this nabe as many seem to.

you really gotta like your neighbors when going into these tiny buildings, its like joining a family. good for single person or no kid couples who want to be close to manhattan.
