A long-stalled condo project at 591 Washington Avenue in Crown Heights has just hit the market with one- and two-bedrooms starting at $849,000. The five-unit development currently has three listings up for grabs, and prices are similar to Hello Living’s condos across the street at 618 Washington Avenue. There’s a one-bedroom, 1.5-bath sized at 807 square feet asking $849,000, and two two-bedroom, two-bath apartments asking $995,000 and $1,025,000 respectively.
The one-bedroom has a private backyard, and the other four, which are two-bedrooms, have private balconies. Kava Designs designed the building and the interiors.
What do you think of the look and the pricing?

When considering the price per square foot, it does seem to be a bit pricey…even considering the neighborhood draw (indeed, while many consider this to be Crown Heights, this part of Crown Heights, which is literally right across the street from Prospect Heights, can and does demand Prospect Heights prices). But, yes, I agree that those units will sell for around the asking price (if they have not sold already).
I heard they had over 50 people at the only open house (held on a midweek evening), and that there were a few offers.
Whoever buys the 1BR for $849K, please contact me. I got a killer deal on a bridge for you. Good location (DUMBO), lots of sunshine, a great investment!
Seriously, this is way overpriced. The 1BR is >$1000/sqft, and the “rock garden” is just a dark backyard surrounded by other buildings, more like the bottom of a light shaft. The 2BRs are “only” $900/sqft, except they really aren’t 1115 sqft, unless you count staircase and elevator as part of it. So more like $1000/sqft.
No, but seriously, with that amount of square footage, the layout isn’t bad. It’s sort of the best it could be, I think. That’s not saying much, but it’s something. If you wanted to embrace the white box concept you could do a lot worse–just the price does seem really really high for what it is.
i think you meant white rhombus
They look very sad and narrow and tiny. Poor sad narrow little million dollar condos! Who will want you? Will it be a Chinese investor? Will it be an NYU student’s parents? Will it be a very sad family newly arrived in our fair city who have no idea that better floorplans exist? Poor sad condo. Don’t cry. Someone will buy you. I do not know why.
At least the 2 bdrms actually have an eating area that isn’t truly in the living room; that’s rare these days. Otherwise, the prices seems insane to me and that location is pretty awful in my opinion in terms of noise and general unpleasantness and ugliness. Is that “triangle” still always full of litter and addicts? At least the subway is nearby, although it is the C train, the worst line in my experience.
That ship sailed long ago. Washington Ave, while once an eyesore in that part of the neighborhood, has been developed rather nicely in the past 2-4 years.
