Large for a one-bedroom, this 1920s apartment has some sweet period details as well as thoughtful updates. It’s on the fourth floor of 80 Winthrop Street in Prospect Lefferts Gardens.

Subtle allusions to castles such as clinker bricks, arched windows, crenelated molding, shields and swags emphasize the otherwise strictly structured brick building, designed by Brooklyn architect Boris Dorfman. The six-story, 144-unit complex dates to 1928, the certificate of occupancy shows.

The unit opens to a foyer with closet and room for a bench and table. There are high ceilings, parquet, and original doors and molding.

The living room has two windows overlooking the building’s shared courtyard and space for a wall of bookcases, lounging and dining. A graphic tile floor gives some snap to the kitchen, where there are new white Shaker-style cupboards and a subway tile backsplash. The kitchen’s breakfast nook has space for a table and retains its original built-in ironing board.

A small hall leads to a bedroom nearly as big as the living room, with two windows and a ceiling fan. The bathroom plays up the curves of its 1920s corner tub with marble hex tile on the floors and classic white subway tile on the wall.

There are also three walk-in closets, including one with a door leading outside, a floor plan from an old listing shows.

The building has an elevator and shared laundry. Maintenance for this apartment, repped by John Daniel Tamasi of Brown Harris Stevens, is $1,072. A handful of other units in the building are also for sale. This one is asking $450K. What do you think?
